A hernia you say?

For those of you who haven't heard, I discovered a small lump on Addison's stomach a few weeks back. We took her in to see her pediatrician last week and suggested we see a pediatric surgeon at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital up in Spokane. It turns out Addison has an epigastric hernia. It’s a tiny defect in her abdominal wall that allows fatty tissue to pass through and appears as a tiny knot just beneath the skin. It is something she was born with and for now, it doesn't seem to cause her any discomfort. These type of hernias will not resolve on their own and it can cause problems for her later in life. It’s not life-threatening but he recommended surgery before she enters kindergarten. Tris and I figure it’s better to get it done and over with so surgery is scheduled for Friday, March 13th. It seems that smaller kids heal much faster. Surgery is outpatient and should cause minimal pain. According to the Dr., she’ll be good to go back to daycare the following Monday. He said she’s be fine to drive home the same day of surgery but we’ll be staying the weekend in Spokane at Tristan’s Aunt and Uncle’s to give her a chance to heal before we stick her in the car seat. I’m nervous. I’m sure it’ll be harder on us than it will be on her. At least I'll have Tristan to lean on through it all. For now, I am trying not to think about it.

Other that that, things are going well in the Kelley household. I can't believe Addison is 18 months already! She is talking quite a bit more now and will pretty much repeat (or try at least) everything we say. My personal favorite is her rendition of "love you." Melts my heart. :) Tristan started yet another semester of school and I've been keeping busy with Tastefully Simple. Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for reading!
